This area was just opened for trekkers in the mid 1990`s. The Manaslu region lies close to the border of Tibet and just as in the past the locals still trade with Tibet as it is just a days walk to the border. The trek to Manaslu follows the age-old trade rout all the way to Larkya Bazar and Phedi which is the bottom of the pass. This trek leads through interesting traditional villages and farm land taking you through various land scapes and eco systems, from the low sub-tropic to the arctic. This trek gives you a taste of all the diversity that Nepal has to offer.
This trek lies in mid-western Nepal, it follows the Budigandaki River upstream from the sub-tropical forest to the dry Tibetan zone offering outstanding views of Mount Manaslu (8156 m), the eight highest peak in the world along with a panorama of the surrounding magnificent peaks that straddle the border with Tibet.
The trek passes the highest point of the journey at Larkya-la. From the top of the pass it is almost all downhill through the serene alpine forests and meadows until you come to the main trail of the Annapurna circuit. After being on the main trek for a few days, the journey continues towards Pokhara via another secret route seldom used by trekkers, which offers stunning views of the Manaslu and Annapurna ranges, including the magnificent majestic Mount Machhapurcha (fishtail) situated amongst traditional mid-hills villages.
